5 Stretches to Undo Your Desk Job
Sitting for long hours at a desk can lead to tight hips, rounded shoulders, and a stiff lower back. The human body wasn't designed to be sedentary for 8+ hours a day.
However, you don't need a 90-minute yoga class to undo the damage. Integrating these 5 simple stretches into your daily routine can make a world of difference:
- Neck Rolls & Stretches: Gently drop your right ear to your right shoulder. Hold for 5 breaths. Repeat on the left.
- Seated Cat-Cow: With hands on your knees, inhale and arch your back, lifting your chest. Exhale and round your spine, tucking your chin.
- Desk Pigeon Pose: Cross your right ankle over your left knee while seated. Keep your spine long and gently lean forward until you feel a stretch in your right hip.
- Chest Opener: Interlace your fingers behind your back. Inhale, roll your shoulders down and back, and lift your chest toward the ceiling.
- Seated Spinal Twist: Plant your feet flat. Inhale to sit tall, exhale to twist to the right, holding the back of your chair. Hold for 5 breaths and switch sides.
Consistency is key. Try doing this short sequence twice a day!
